GTUK 2015 Tag Team Entry Form (black belts)

The Great GTUK Bake Off

During the GTUK British Championships on 24th October 2015 the GTUK England Squad will be holding the first Great GTUK Bake Off! competition, open to all students and spectators.

To enter, you will need to bring your baked goods (cakes, biscuits, sweet pastries etc.) to the GTUK stall by 9:30am on the morning of the competition. We would like to be able to identify the baker, as there will be a prize for our Star Baker. You will also need to provide a description of the item and a list of ingredients. In the interest of safety we ask that you highlight any ingredients that are common allergens, including – although not exclusively nuts. We will assume that all entries contain gluten unless otherwise indicated.

During the day the Senior Blackbelts will taste test the entries and our Star Baker will be announced. There will also be the opportunity to buy the baked good throughout the day. All funds raised will used to support GTUK England Squad students, particularly linked to Argentina 2017.

Instructors, we would like you to promote this opportunity to any students who are attending the Championships

Taekwondo Family – A special poem about our Taekwondo club – from a special lady

Taekwondo Family

Taekwondo Family

Two years along who would have known,

a Taekwondo Family has evolved,

with hard work and caring too,

Susie and Nidge this is down to you.

Going through patterns and paces,

pure satisfaction on our faces,

all of this could not be done,

without the dedication of Sir and Ma’am.

One Big Family you’ve made us feel,

dreams coming true making them real,

training, get togethers, it’s great to see,

our thanks to you for ‘OUR’ Family.

Beccles Taekwondo Grading Autumn 2015

Beccles Taekwondo Grading Autumn 2015

The Autumn assessment for Beccles and Bungay Taekwondo students took place at the weekend with 35 practitioners gathering at the Sports Hall at Bungay High School to be put through their paces by International grading Examiner Mr Steve King (6th Degree) and they performed superbly.

The examination includes demonstrations of techniques including kicks, punches and blocks, patterns (which are sequences of moves choreographed together), sparring, self-defence, power destruction and Korean technical language.  This certainly tests every element of student progress in this Olympic martial art and many are tired and very relieved when the 4 hour test is complete.

Steve said “standards are once again very high and there are only a small number of corrections to be made for a few, well done to the instructors who help prepare their students so effectively”

The clubs are centres for the local community with many parents training with their children and we are always willing to take new students, so if you want to get fit for the New Year come along to a free taster session which you can find further details on the clubs websites. The youngest students in the clubs are 5 years old and there is no upper age limit.

Local press report:

Still a winning combination

Beccles Taekwondo Instructors Susie and Nidge Bedingfield are still proving to be a winning combination, both having won multiple British titles in their sport in recent years have now guided their Students to a Tug of War Victory at the annual Worlingham Fete 😉

The Tug of War took place after the Taekwondo students had very successfully entertained the crowd with a powerful demonstration of their martial art, showing their destructive techniques, punching, kicking, patterns, sparring and board breaking.

Many of these students from the Beccles club have won National titles for their sport during the last year.

The Beccles Taekwondo Club have just launched a new Tiger logo to celebrate their 3rd year in Beccles. The new Tiger is called ‘TIKWON’, and has been designed by Instructor Nidge Bedingfield who is the graphic designer for imajaz limited.

If you are interested in having a go at Taekwondo please visit the Beccles Taekwondo web site B-TKD.UK for more information, or just turn up on a Monday or Thursday evening 7-8.30pm at The Venue, Ringsfield Road, Beccles, you will be made very welcome.

Active Waveney Sports Awards 2015

Long Service Award – Clinton Gillett (martial arts)

Eight trophies were presented at the 18th annual Active Waveney Sports Awards held at Rookery Park Golf Club, in Carlton Colville and Clinton Gillett was delighted to be amongst those receiving an award.

Leading sportsmen and sportswomen, clubs and volunteers were all singled out at the event, organised by Waveney District Council and supported by Sentinel Leisure Trust, the Active Waveney Sports Partnership, Waveney Sportsability and The Journal.

Giving the opening speech, Lowestoft mayor Stephen Ardley said: “Once again this was another difficult year for the judging panel, with a number of very worthy entries.  “Congratulations to all of our winners this evening. It’s important not to forget the huge numbers of coaches, teachers and parents who make successes like these possible.”

The presentation of awards was made by Lowestoft Rising change manager Phil Aves, with the trophies handed out by Mr Ardley and fellow judges Michael Ladd, Waveney district councillor, John Pawsey, from the Active Waveney Sports Partnership, and Waveney Sportsability chairman Rachel Baylis.

The winners will all be automatically entered into the Suffolk Sport Awards later this year.  Mr Aves said: “I just think when we hear about the talent we have got here in Waveney, and the success that these winners are having, it is amazing.  “The awards have shown appreciation for these successes, highlighting how they have done a great job in these sports.

Long Service Award – Clinton Gillett (martial arts)

Clinton’s passion for sporting activity started as a result of his Perthes Disease, which meant that from the age of four until he was about eight he could not walk and was in callipers, plaster casts and a wheelchair.

Despite this start, he achieved his first black belt in Karate aged 16 and won several national trophies, also representing his school in rugby, football, badminton and cricket.

He won a silver medal in the 2000 World Taekwondo Championships held in Italy and continues to participate as a veteran recently winning Gold and Bronze at the UITF British Open.

He has just gained his 5th Degree and to date has brought up 31 black belts, 2 of which now run Beccles Taekwondo Club.

Clinton has been training and competing for 31 years alongside running a hugely successful community club at Bungay High School for the last 12 years.

Clinton took along Liam and Christian Everett to do a demonstration at the presentation which organisers and spectators said was the best they have had in the 18 years of the awards, it was great to see that press coverage in all the local papers focused on photos of the display which included; patterns, destruction, sparring and self-defence.
